Making A Claim with WorkSafeBC

Of Special Importance to all Retirees is you are all still eligible to make a claim.

I encourage anyone that has Cancer to make a Claim even if it is not on the Presumptive list.

There are two outcomes for Work Safe to make either they accept your claim or reject it.

Any claim becomes a statistic that the BCPFFA can use to increase the presumptive list.

Should your presumptive cancer cause your death and is recognized as a L.O.D.,your spouse will be eligible for a surviors pension.

Your Family or estate also becomes,

eligible for the Federal First Responders Grant, a $300,000 dollar tax free grant to your estate.

As a L.O.D.

your name will be added to the BC Fallen Fire Fighters and the IAFF Colorado Springs Memorials

The following is information on how to deal with Work Safe when making a claim

The following is for Retired Fire Fighters: Make a claim you can either do this by phone or make a claim on line

for a phone call the following number: 1-888-967-5377 the call taker will ask for your information, care card, type of and discovery of injury. You will then be given a claim number, you will also get additional information mailed to you, probably asking you to fill the forms out again. This is so Work Safe can cross-reference your story.

Claiming on line:    https://www.worksafebc.com/en/claims/manage-claim/view-submit-claim-informa

If you click on the above web site you will get a link to WorkSafeBC. Select the on line form and fill it in. You will then get a claim number and more paperwork.

The best advice I can give you is to make an account with work also located on the WSBC site. This will allow you to review the information you supplied and to track any information regarding your claim.

The other  thing I should remind you is that all conversation with  work Safe are recorded. this is again to cross-reference your information. Any information submitted by you or you claims adjudicator will be placed in you file.

In order for you to keep your claim information correct I suggest that you keep a journal, record everything you say as well as the adjudicator, any time you see your Doctors, Physio therapist, whoever you see. Date and Time what was discussed or done.

Additional information that you should be aware of regarding Work Safe. As a retiree you will not be eligbile for a pension. However if you need to travel and have to have treatment not avaliable where yo live, work safe will cover your expenses.

Here are the rules for a late application. This is taken directly off the BC Work Safe

This information is important not only for Retirees but as well as those still working

I would hope that no one is late submitting a claim there should be no reason to.
